LIVE VISUALS | DOS Tracks

Urban Projections created a live mapping rig for DOS Tracks, the music wing of snow wear label, DOS Clothing.  The rig was built especially for the venue and installed to accommodate mapped footage, which was VJ’d live.  The content was created with the retro style of the brand in mind, incorporating their colour palette, patterns and geometric shapes.  Big thanks to DOS for a stormer of a night!

COLLABORATION | Urban Projections x James Lenton

As we have been making apparent: the start of 2014 is all about collaboration for us at Urban Projections.  Hooking up with like-minded creatives in the name of making more of the good stuff, and taking weird and wonderful journeys in new directions.Something that we we are currently busying ourselves with is a collaboration with local illustrator James Lenton.  Our work together is aiming to create some fresh AV content, based upon illustrative loops with a strong ‘hand made’ element.  We caught up with James in the studio today, and got him to impart some thoughts from his brain, onto paper…

How do you feel about turning your illustrations into live visuals?

Yeah, It will be good to bring my work to life because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve also recently got a light box that I’d like to test drive with different animating techniques. The idea of creating looks from my illustrations, and making it more dynamic, is something I’m really excited by…. I’m looking forward to seeing where this collaboration will take us!

What sort of things inspire your work?

I think bus and train journeys are a really good time to be inspired by the things you pass. Looking at what’s around me, and how I could use it in my work is really interesting. I also stare at pictures of Thom Yorke, that tends to inspire me…..!?

What work has recently got you absorbed?

I’ve started this collection of work where I create an illustration everyday and then I post them online. The drawings are of whatever comes into my head, I tend to put them up then look at it the next day and just wonder why I drew that specific thing, but I’m not going to delete them.

What has been your favorite piece of work you’ve produced?

I like different things on different days, depending which way the winds blowing. But if i had to choose, Probably an illustration I did with the writing ‘Come What May’ on it, inspired by a film I watched. I just like the drawing, especially that colour, I really like that colour! I don’t have any specific reason for it being my favorite piece, I just really like how it turned out.

LIVE VISUALS | One Bomb at the Nottingham Contemporary
For sometime, we’ve been busy collaborating and performing with the amazing live act that is One Bomb.  One Bomb is an explosive live dance act hailing from the Midlands, formed by the joining of two passionate artists who all share a love for cutting edge electronic music. The band is made up of Si Tew (Keys, Synth, Bass), Shookz (Beats, Samples, FX) and Guest Vocalist’s. With dirty bass lines, catchy hooks and glitched beats fused with haunting vocals, atmospheric sounds and an inventive use of samples, One Bomb carves an original blend of urban music that is aimed directly at the dance floor. By fusing together their House, Garage, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass and other musical influences One Bomb show their lack of regard for genre, caring only for a passionate, high-energy performance.
Our first gig for 2014 will be on February 8th at the Nottingham Contemporary.  Expect live audio visual explosions.
